The Extrusion Process
Extrusion is a manufacturing process where rubber or PVC is melted and forced through a die to create a continuous profile.
- 1. Material Selection: Start by choosing the appropriate material for the extrusion. Our standard rubber extrusions use weather resistant EPDM or SBR. However, we also offer Silicone, Coloured EPDM, Nitrile, Viton®, Buna N , and various plastics for specialised applications.
- 2. Compound Customisation: If the standard compounds do not meet the specific needs of an application, we customise the elastomer blend. This ensures that the final product exhibits the desired properties, such as increased durability, flexibility, or resistance to environmental factors.
- 3. Design and Die Selection: With a catalogue of over 5000 dies, we can create extrusions of virtually any shape and size. Our design service helps tailor the extrusion profile to fit the exact application requirements, whether its a simple cord or a complex co-extruded profile.
- 4. Extrusion: The selected material is fed into an extruder, where it is heated and forced through a shaped die. This process transforms the material into a continuous shape that matches the die’s profile.
- 5. Post-Extrusion Fabrication: After extrusion, we offer various post-fabrication services such as cutting, drilling, punching, notching, and slotting. This allows us to deliver a product that is ready to use and fits perfectly within its intended application.
