Product Description

Our rubber bonded cork gaskets provide an effective solution for industrial sealing, vibration isolation and noise reduction. Manufactured from a composite of natural cork granules and synthetic rubber binders, these gaskets combine the compressibility of cork with the flexibility and sealing properties of rubber.

Rubber bonded cork is available in different formulations, including nitrile (NBR), neoprene and SBR rubber binders. Selected grades offer excellent resistance to oils and fuels, making them suitable for transformers, automotive components and industrial machinery. The material also provides good compression characteristics, helping to accommodate minor surface irregularities and maintain an effective seal.

In addition to sealing applications, rubber bonded cork offers useful vibration damping and acoustic insulation properties. These characteristics make it suitable for machinery mounting, equipment housings and other applications where reducing vibration transmission and noise is important.

We manufacture bespoke rubber bonded cork gaskets, washers and sealing components to your required dimensions. Materials can also be supplied in sheets or cut strips to suit individual applications.

Rubber Bonded Cork Materials & Properties

Rubber bonded cork is manufactured by combining natural cork particles with synthetic rubber binders to produce a flexible, compressible composite material. The choice of rubber binder influences its resistance to oils, chemicals, temperature and environmental conditions.

Common formulations include:

  • Nitrile Bonded Cork (NBR): Provides good resistance to many mineral oils and fuels, making it suitable for transformers, automotive components and oil-contact sealing applications.
  • Neoprene Bonded Cork: Offers balanced mechanical properties and resistance to selected oils, weathering and environmental conditions.
  • SBR Bonded Cork: Provides good resilience and vibration damping for general-purpose applications where significant oil resistance is not required.

Material selection depends on the operating temperature, fluid exposure, compression requirements and intended application.

Sealing, Vibration & Noise Control

Rubber bonded cork provides a combination of sealing and vibration damping properties, making it useful across a range of industrial applications.

For static sealing, the material compresses to accommodate minor surface irregularities, helping prevent leakage between mating components. Selected oil-resistant grades are particularly suitable for transformer housings, gearbox covers and other equipment exposed to lubricants.

The composite structure also helps absorb vibration and reduce noise transmission. Rubber bonded cork can therefore be used in machinery isolation pads, acoustic mounting systems and building components where vibration control is required.

Bespoke Rubber Bonded Cork Gasket Manufacturing

We manufacture custom rubber bonded cork gaskets using precision cutting and fabrication techniques. Components can be produced with bespoke dimensions, internal openings, fixing holes and complex profiles.

Our manufacturing capabilities include flange gaskets, picture frame gaskets, washers, sealing rings and vibration isolation pads. We can supply individual components or larger quantities for machinery maintenance, repairs and new assemblies.

Contact our team with your technical drawings, CAD files or existing gasket samples, together with details of the operating conditions and quantities required. We can help identify a suitable rubber bonded cork grade and gasket specification for your application.

FAQs

What are rubber bonded cork gaskets used for?

Rubber bonded cork gaskets are commonly used in transformers, automotive components, industrial machinery and static sealing applications. The material also provides vibration damping and noise reduction properties.

Are rubber bonded cork gaskets resistant to oil and fuel?

Selected grades, particularly nitrile bonded cork, offer good resistance to many oils and fuels. Suitability depends on the rubber formulation, fluid type, temperature and operating conditions.

Can rubber bonded cork gaskets be manufactured to bespoke dimensions?

Yes. We can precision cut rubber bonded cork gaskets, washers and sealing components to custom shapes, sizes and thicknesses using technical drawings, CAD files or existing samples.
