Product Description
The Rubber Company supply a wide variety of wet pour materials including; SBR base layer granules, EPDM top layer granules and high quality polyurethane binder. Using these materials alongside our detailed installation guide allows almost anyone to install a wet pour surface. We regularly supply materials for both small and large scale installations, working with landscaping companies and private users alike. Our experienced staff are on hand to calculate the exact materials required to cover any size area, incorporating different thicknesses and surface colours.
One of the primary uses for wet pour is to create a seamless safety surface. However, with a wide range of colours available and the ease of installation you can also use it to create complex patterns and designs. Using our wet pour materials, you can create a wet pour surface to the exact design and safety specification you want.
Please note: other tools required to install wet pour, please consult our installation guide for more information.
The Different Wet Pour Layers
Many people who see a wet pour surface for the first time assume that it is just one layer, similar to tarmac surfaces. However, there are actually two crucial layers which make up a wet pour surface.
As you can see from the image above, the difference in the layers is immediately noticeable. Each layer serves a different purpose and it is important to ensure you have the correct amount of wet pour materials before attempting installation.
Top Layer
The top layer creates the expert finish and is comprised of high-quality EPDM granules. These granules are much finer than the base layer, which is what enables you to create complex designs. EPDM is available in wide range of colours and also features excellent weathering and UV resistance.
Base Layer
The base layer of the wet pour surface provides the majority of the impact absorption. You can increase the thickness of this layer to increase the critical fall height of the surface. This layer is manufactured from 100% recycled SBR (Styrene Butadiene Rubber) rubber crumb.
Sub-Base Requirements
It is important to note that while you can install wet pour on a variety of different surfaces you need to have the correct sub base. The most common sub base being a compacted MOT type 1 stone base. Other solid porous surfaces such as textured macadam or concrete are also suitable.
Critical Fall Height Information
As you can see from the drawing, you can easily account for any critical fall height requirements simply by increasing the thickness of the base layer. We always suggest keeping the top layer at a consistent thickness of either 15mm or 20mm, as this can greatly reduce material costs. It is always important to plan ahead regarding any critical fall height requirements you may have, as the sub-base can effect the base thickness required. We are always happy to calculate the appropriate surface thickness required to suit your unique requirements. All we need to know is the maximum height of any structures or play equipment that will be used on the surface as well as the sub-base type.
